We are there when nuclear weapons first go to sea, and balance on the knife's edge of mutually assured destruction. With the end of World War II, the future of warships themselves is at stake: The use of atomic bombs calls into question the fundamental utility of warships. Nuclear age brings nuclear powered naval forces: carriers, submarines, frigates. In 1955, first nuclear powered submarine allowed crew to remain underwater forever.
