Peter Thornton is supervising tests of the Savory IV powerboat ahead of the Offshore Powerboat Race, but the engines keep overheating and builder Dino Marinetti blames Mogul's lubricants. Its wealthy owner, Sir John Savory, gives Thornton twenty hours to cure the fault or lose the contract, then draws him in as co-driver after the usual driver is injured. In London, Willy Izard and Brian Stead face a price war in Southampton.
